The more computers I work on, the more I've come to appreciate a good quality case. The difference between a good case and a bad case can make so much difference -- easier assembly, better ventilation and cooling, more expandability, quieter operation, nicer appearance..

Skimp on the case if you prefer, but for me it's one of the most important choices when building a machine.`

It doesn't need to come with much... everything is freely available through Synaptic, or YaST in SuSE, so you can just grab the things you need if you need 'em. Most power users will uninstall most of the preinstalled software anyway!

not bad

+1 for corsair psu, smart choice.

I would prefer this cpu for myself
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819105212
with a 780 g board, but i don't know what the best current config on Newegg is.

+1 for ubuntu and linux in gereral, but for a more "robust" OS which will still run extremely well, and free, i would put opensuse 11.1 on it. Not a huge difference, i guess Ubuntu might seem easier for windows users, but it truly doesnt come with much

have a very similar setup...plays HD video files over HDMI out to TV no problem using a dual screen while I can still use the computer. My LCD monitor didn't have HDCP, so I couldn't run two digital sources at the same time, so I "upgraded" to a 4350HD with HDMI out and I can use the old LCD and the HDMI out.
